Strange, but along miles of highway lined with the usual Spring bloom of Sunflowers, Bluebonnets, and Indian Paintbrushes, one small part of the drainage ditch, over a distance of about 100 feet, was full of Lilies.

beautiful shot :-)

Thanks AMIT. The problem I have with these flower shots is getting the depth-of-field I want. The wind is usually moving everything around and stopping down the aperture makes the shutter speed too slow.

very beautiful flower shot. i like the bright colors and the composition of the shot. don't think i've seen these before, and if i have it was definitely not still growing out of the ground.

@danthro: Thanks. Well, I know so little about these things that I had no idea what I was taking a photo of. My wife told me they are lilies and I just take her word for it. I was a little unhappy with my DOF here, but I hadn't had my camera long at this point and was reluctant to crank up the ISO. Now I'd push it up to 800, or even 1600, for a shot like this, if necessary.
I have found it very difficult to get good flower shots in the wild. My main problem is that when I crank up the shutter speed to compensate for movement in the wind, my aperture is forced open to compensate, thus losing DOF. I haven't shot anything like this since learning what is acceptable on the high end of ISO, but I think I need to do two things in the future: 1) crank up my ISO; and 2) experiment with flash. My wife suggested a spring flower expedition this coming weekend, so perhaps I'll try it out.
