My concession to the July 4th holiday --a photo without flags or exploding fireworks. Fireworks are still legally sold outside the city limits, and there is usually no shortage of fireworks stands around Christmas and the 4th of July. This night, however, there did appear to be a shortage of customers.

it's amazing that you can buy fireworks like this! I like the simplicity of the capture, nice one Twelvebit :)

@MaryB: They're not selling just things like "sparklers" either. They have firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles, cherry bombs, etc. I don't think these things can legally be sold in the city limits anywhere in the state, but stands like this are prolific on rural highways. I'm not taking a position one way or the other, but on holidays like the 4th and New Year's, you have to be vigilant in some places, especially if you have pets that can be spooked by fireworks. And every once and awhile, people using fireworks without common sense accidentally burn down a house.
Looks like an immigrant family watching TV. Am i right? I am happy you chose not to go cliche on us and show us a flag and fireworks pic. I like this image.

@Rags: I'm not certain, but that would be my guess --immigrants from Mexico. They're definitely watching TV. They're all young and there were no adults in sight during the ten minutes or so I was taking photos. Since the sales at these stands are seasonal the people selling are usually transients. At this one it appeared they were living in a tent pitched next to the stand. The stand down the road was a little more "upscale" and the people at that one were living in a nice new trailer (and, btw, were not immigrants).
Hope you had a great 4th of July, Twelvebit! Nicely captured on this low-light scene...where was this taken, by the way?

@{H} creatives: Seems like it was raining all across south Texas. We just stayed in and watched Twin Peaks on DVD --the final season having just been released last week. The photo was taken along highway US 87 near Victoria, Texas. It's a four lane highway (five if you count the center turning lane) in a semi-rural area outside the city limits.
Wow, cool night shot, so sad that they had a shortage of customers!
