A Day by the Bay Image 9
Oops. I didn't have another pelican shot on the right computer so I'm back to one of the images I originally intended to post. We pulled up to the boat channel in Port O'Conner and I got out of the car to take photos of a pier full of pelicans. After taking a few shots I caught, out of the corner of my eye, two big birds taking off practically from under my feet. They had been down on the channel bank hidden from view beneath the curbing of the elevated road. These birds got up so fast I'm not sure what they were. They weren't pelicans. I took them to be hawks of some kind, but given what they were feeding on, shown here, they may have been vultures. I don't know enough about either of these kinds of birds to know whether one or the other would feed on a fish carcass.

@Josh: Again with the reply icon. Doh! Thanks. I like subject material like this also, which, of course, is why I took the picture. However, shots like this are rather unpopular, wherever I post them. I put some of these photos up with an article at JPG Magazine, and it is the only article I've ever posted there that has, so far, gotten ZERO votes for publication (and out of 148 views). It can't just be because the photos suck, because past articles I've posted have had photos that suck harder --it has to be the subject.
