It didn't register at the time, while I was wandering around downtown Houston taking photos, but I don't recall seeing any typical fire hydrants: I guess this is why. Too much sheltered living in the 'burbs I suppose.

This is so cool because the way they are lined up takes the viewer and you follow the image down the long line of hydrants. Very interesting POV

@Lost Valley View: Thank you. I actually had to take several shots before I got the focus and DOF I wanted.
The angle is just perfect and the silver color is very eye catching. I really like the perspective. Well done.

@Amir: Thanks. I kept taking shots and checking them to find that something was off, either focus, DOF, or the desired framing and alignment.
Top use of selective focussing and leading us into the shot. Good work.

@Richard_Irwin: I knew what I wanted but it was surprisingly difficult to get everything framed and working together --took me several shots.

@ttomasso: Thank you. A nice compliment from someone creating professional photos like yours.

@vasa: The hdr process can produce images that range from cartoonish to realistic (without any overt indication that hdr was used). I think your analogy to painting is the best comparison I've heard. Some people associate it with cartoonish images and appear not to like it, but this process is going to be used more and more until at some point in the future it is as common as tweaking curves or adjusting a histogram.
