I couldn't find the image I wanted to post this Christmas morning and finally ran out of time. So, I'm posting this one. Power plants like this one operate continuously (except when they're down for maintenance) so holiday or no, even Christmas, someone is working to keep the lights on. I'm glad it's not me. By the way, that stuff coming out of the cooling tower on the right is not "smoke," or any combustion by product, however it may look; it's just water vapor --steam.

@Carson: Thanks. Primarily an exercise in shape and form. The images with detail in the foreground just didn't seem to work when they were larger than thumbnail size.
i always thought those were smoke, i'm glad they're not. i like this very much, the contrast on this image makes the power plant look like a formidable structure, yet one can't ignore the graphic design element, the form and shape, it's beautiful.
happy holidays!

@Mortola: Thank you. Tower structures like the one on the right circulate water for cooling by evaporation; when the weather conditions are right the vapor condenses and you can see their plume. There are combustion by-products from the three generators to the left, as they are combustion turbines --essentially jet engines-- but you can't see them. The visible plumes are also steam.
