@Amir: I read that they come out of the ground every seven years; but I suppose there are batches on this cycle coming out every year, since I hear them every summer.
WOW..these close up images are fantastic...I like your jourlalism work the best, espicially the 4images of the car. Great portfolio of work...

@alex centrella: Thanks. I was a little disappointed with the contrast on that set. One of the things I've learned since going digital and using Photoshop, and scanning my old film images, is how much I didn't know what I was doing back then, and how often I botched my exposures.
Not familiar with the insect so I looked it up. Some people do eat them, do you have a recipe for Cicada's.

@JoeB: I guess people eat just about everything. Cockroaches are supposed to be a good source of protein, as are maggots, but I've never heard of anyone eating Cicadas. Now, if you want a recipe for a good Possum pie or an Armadillo soup, maybe I can help you.
Weird looking bug! Nice capture though!

@Ina: They don't have these night time noise makers in South Africa? It's a strange bug with strange "habits." Supposedly they gestate in the ground for seven years and they make a Hell of a racket at night.
