I have no idea what is attached to this fence post. A cocoon of some kind? Anyone?

@Antares: Thank you and thanks for dropping by.
Wow, what an awesome capture, nice light and focus. Don't have a clue what it is either, but i like it!

@Ina: I'm not exactly a country boy, so I'm often amazed by some of the "nature" I stumble across when I'm really out in the country.
Don't know it either, just wait :-) A perfect shot!

@MadScientist: Thank you. I think Amir is probably right --spider egg sacks.
I'm gonna take a wild guess. They are spider egg sacks. Very nice macro shot. The depth of field is amazing

@Amir: That would be my guess too; there were lots of large spider webs all over the place at this location. Technically though, it's not a macro shot, just a close up.
Its an alien pod, like in the film Fire In The Sky.

@JoeB: I thought that was just an alien abduction movie. Don't you mean one of the "Body Snatcher" movies --of which there are at least four now?
great dof! great shot! my guess it is some kind of spider nest!

@Sandrine: Thanks. I think you're right --there were lots of big spider webs at this location.
They look like spider egg cases to me - beautiful shot.

@Carson: Thanks. You seem pretty sure of it; and I suspect you're right.
I was just kidding trying to make it more than it was, my original guess was to do with spiders considering the webbing around it. I'm a film buff but have never seen any of the Invasion of the Body Snatcher movies, but I have heard that the best one is the one with Donald Sutherland.

@JoeB: I know you were kidding. As far as which body snatcher movie is "best" goes, mmmmm, I don't know. Sometimes good movies are just different and I don't think you can really say that one is "better" than another. Quite a bit of how one judges one good movie better than another is a function of taste. That said, I'd probably rate the original 56 version higher, though I do think the 78 version is the best of the remakes (however, I've yet to see the latest remake with Nicole Kidman). I'd give the 56 version a little credit for being first, but mainly, I think it has a sort paranoia without cynicism that doesn't last much beyond the 50's. The clash of "innocence" (or lack of sophistication), paranoia, and unexpected reality produce a unique atmosphere you don't really see outside of American sci-fi movies from the 50's, like Body Snatchers, The Thing From Another World, The Day the Earth Stood Still, or even the British film, Quatermass 2.
BTW, the IMDB ranks them like this: 56 version (8.0), 78 Version (7.2), 07 Version (6.0), 93 Version (5.7)
