Forced draft fan duct work for an old and small generator. A FDF blows air into a boiler for combustion with natural gas or atomized oil.

@Mortola: One of the things that drew me to take this are the lights on the right and left that look like studio lighting on stands. I felt like it gave the scene sort of a staged quality.
Very interesting...this is small compered to the FD fans where I work. Is this one still in use? I presume there is larger newer ones in use there too?

@Shar: I'm used to seeing FDFs for 150 and 300 MW generators --with 1500 to 4000 HP fan motors-- so at first glance I thought these motors were to move dampers. However (I don't actually work in the power plant so I'm not positive) I think this is the actual fan motor setup for an 11 MW generator. I think there is a smaller unit that isn't in service, but they were doing boiler work on this one awhile back so I think this is the 11 MW unit, which is still used on days with high electricity prices. Oh yeah, almost forgot, yesterday's photo is of the new combined-cycle units that are in continuous operation, on the other side of the green building in the background.
cool! this is a great shot! like the composition and sharpness and how you captured the light and color.

@test: Thanks. How come your nick on this comment is "test?"
i wonder how that happened. i have a guess though. i was logged out for a minute testing the comment function on my own site yesterday, i put in a test comment 'cause i was trying to figure out if aminus3 e-mails responses to comments that weren't left by aminus3ers, and i entered my name as 'test' when i commented on my own post (which i then deleted later), but it wouldn't let me remove the website name even though i was logged out.
