My wife went out to get the mail and told me I should go check out the lizard on the walk way outside. I'm not sure what kind of lizard this is --I think it may be known locally as a Texas horned lizard-- but it's different from the usual lizards we see around here and find inside the house. Over the next few days I'll be presenting images of this lizard who was so motionless for the thirty minutes or so I was taking his photo that I began to wonder if he was dead. He wasn't, but he didn't move for about two hours.

Looking forward to more shots of this cute little fella. Not sure why I am afraid of snakes but love lizards when they are so similar . . I guess it is a sensible stance, though.

@Ronnie 2¢: I'm not too fond of snakes myself (and we have plenty of poisonous ones around here, like rattlesnakes, water moccasins, and coral snakes) --but I thought you didn't have any snakes over there, or is that just Ireland and not Great Britain?
What a little mean cute lizard! Maybe he was just enjoying the sun and the warm ground.

great capture! love the detail and dof. makes me think, "it was an ordinary day in the suburbs, everyone was going about their lives and business as usual... but around the corner, little Lizard Dude was on a mission..." :)

@danthro: I can't remember when I last saw a lizard of this type, or this size. Lizards are over the place around here, inside and out, but they are usually very small and quite different in appearance.
He blends in so well with the walkway...he's lucky he didn't get squashed.

@Melissa: I was worried about that, actually, when my son and his wife visited about an hour after I took this and he was still out there in the exact same position. They saw him though, and he eventually left.
You must be a frightning figure to feeze a lizard for two hours. A close up shot would be nice.

@JoeB: Well, if you read closely, you'll note it was my wife who saw him first and told me, so perhaps it was her who froze him into position.
I did read that, and if she reads this maybe you should sit with your back to the wall.
