Dang from Marietta, United StatesI like the cold, blue hue. Fits well with the one armed bandits, amazing they let you shoot there. Good work! 7 Apr 2008 6:27am @Dang: Thanks. They didn't exactly let me. I just did it and didn't get caught. Sometimes it is appropriate to ask permission to take a photo, but sometimes I just work on the principle that it is better to seek forgiveness than to seek permission. MadScientist from Düsseldorf, GermanyThe lever looks like a bludgeon, so it's not all fun :) Really cool! 7 Apr 2008 9:37am @MadScientist: Like many other things in life, it can be fun when it is in balance and proportion; and a path to self-destruction when pursued to an extreme. As Oscar Wilde said: "Everything in moderation, including moderation." Ronnie 2¢ from London, United KingdomThis conjures up all sorts of emotions good and bad . . mind you, so did the last few postings! 7 Apr 2008 8:02pm @Ronnie 2¢: It was actually pretty sedate here, compared to the atmosphere of other cruise ships and Las Vegas. danthro from Suburbia, United Statesi really like how you captured the light in this one. 7 Apr 2008 9:34pm @danthro: Thanks. I can't claim much credit though. I shot this in my film days and never really caught on to the technical aspects until I got a good DLSR. I'm just now beginning to understand how little I knew about what I was doing. Mike from Chester, United KingdomMoney makes the world go around.. so they say. You've captured the atmosphere of the casino perfectly. 7 Apr 2008 10:26pm @Mike: Thanks. Not a cool casino though, like Clive Owen worked in The Croupier. Melissa W. from Warsaw, Indiana, United StatesWhat really caught my attention were the light and colors. I also like his blank expression...it makes me think that he's been sitting there awhile. Great capture. 8 Apr 2008 12:35am @Melissa W.: I have to give the color credit to the film and my new Nikon scanner, with which I have been very pleased. JoeB from Brampton, CanadaThe almost endless line of machines, the pasty colour of the man who is wiilingly putting money into a machine. I find casino's too quiet, conversation is not encouraged. 8 Apr 2008 1:46am @JoeB: This one was very quiet. You're right about conversation, in my experience, but I've observed other ship casinos and Las Vegas to be much louder. Shar from Regina, SK, CanadaI like the contrast between the bright lights of the machines and the shadows on the player's face...you hit the jackpot! 8 Apr 2008 2:28am @Shar: I thought about dodging the face, but decided I like the mood better as it was. I didn't even try to correct the color --to the eye it was probably much warmer in reality. @Daroru: I've been scanning some old negatives like this one recently and I've been impressed with the color rendition of some negative films. I didn't look to see the film stock here, but the tonal values were very subtle. Considering I was using my old Canon SLR I think I got lucky on the metering. k@ from Paris, FranceLove that framing !
