An image from my film days, with studio flash and a white background. I am very pleased with how my film scanner rendered this image.

Dynamic, love how the model stands off from the background.

@Observing: The background was lit with two good sized studio flash units. It's a style that has its uses I suppose, but probably not the way I'd shoot the same image today.
Nice image

@Alun Lambert: Thanks. I wish I'd kept those studio flash units I used to have.

@danthro: I stupidly sold them when I gave up on film but still could not afford a DSLR, but I used to have some nice big flash units that had to be mounted on stands. Studio flash units are too big to carry around or mount on cameras, A/C powered, and usually have modeling lights --something like this. I had a nice flash meter too, which I now also regret selling. BTW, this was shot with four studio flash units: (2) to keep the background white, (1) main with umbrella, and (1) key light with umbrella --both angled about 45 degrees off the camera axis. The flash meter is nice, but with a DSLR I can just take test shots and adjust the lighting until I get what I want --something they used to use polaroid backs for.
