Mortola from SoCal, United Statesi like how the shadow on "eats" really gives this photo a 3D feel. i wonder if the food in this place is as appetizing as the sign's weathered look. very good photo. 28 Apr 2008 7:25am @Mortola: I have no idea --about the food that is-- this was the first time I've even seen this restaurant. What you can't see here is how interesting the neon tubes look when you zoom into the image. I'm thinking I need to go back with my 300mm lens and shoot some close-ups of the neon tubing. @Anthony: Thank you. Zorilla from Kew, United KingdomThe thumbnails of these 2 images were right next to each other on the random community page. 28 Apr 2008 9:10am @Zorilla: I like the old signs like the ones in your Gem photo. This restaurant is still in operation though, unlike the motel in your shot. MadScientist from Düsseldorf, GermanyGreat hyper-real effect, looks like a rendered computer graphic. Excellent. 28 Apr 2008 9:43am @MadScientist: Thanks. Ronnie 2¢ from London, United Kingdomwow . . this one really grabs the attention . . love that swirling sky above . . even though it is cracked!! 28 Apr 2008 10:07am @Ronnie 2¢: I was lucky to have a mid afternoon sky that wasn't empty. Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesThis is a magnificent old sign, and you've captured it beautifully, here. The textures and tones against that gorgeous sky are a thing of beauty ... well done! 28 Apr 2008 10:16am @Ron: Thank you. I took several shots from varying perspectives on both sides of the sign, but I liked this tight shot the best. Daroru from Amagasaki, JapanGreat job with this. Nice 'primary colour' series you've got going... 28 Apr 2008 11:30am @Daroru: I didn't think about it that way, but thanks. @Julian Kilsby: Sort of a "fake" hdr. It originates from a single frame that I adjusted for an average, dark, and light exposure. I had almost the look I wanted just using Capture NX and pushing up the contrast and saturation on the sign, but the hdr treatment gave it just a little more of a push that I liked. JoeB from Brampton, CanadaVery powerful, even in its brightness the sky looks like a storm is brewing showing what nature has done to the sign. The little plaza cafe is closed? 28 Apr 2008 2:12pm @JoeB: Well, I don't think it was open when I took the photo, but I believe it is a going business. Melissa W. from Warsaw, Indiana, United StatesThis is awesome! Love the texture and color, but what is really great about this is the light and the "eats" shadow. Brilliant work! 28 Apr 2008 4:27pm @Melissa W.: Thanks. This is one of those times when I knew whatI wanted and processed to get it. I often only know I don't like the starting point and need to work some changes. Amir from Tehran, IranSome one has eaten the sign! lol. Very nice angle and very good colors. I wonder if the place is open 28 Apr 2008 5:13pm @Amir: I don't think it was when I took the photo but I do think it is a going business. danthro from Suburbia, United Statesnice HDR execution here! great light, contrast and atmosphere 28 Apr 2008 5:29pm @danthro: I was almost able to get what I wanted in Capture NX by just tweaking the saturation and contrast of the sign --but not quite. It's not true hdr since it comes from a single original exposure, but the treatment gave it just the push I wanted. Observing from Chester, United KingdomVery cool shot 12bit. Tremendous processing. 28 Apr 2008 6:22pm @Observing: Thanks. As I responded to some of the other comments, I couldn't quite get the look I wanted from Capture NX so I resorted to fake hdr --three exposures from a single original. @Margie: Thank you. Bonj from Jefferson City, United StatesGreat find for a very cool shot. Nice post processing work! 1 May 2008 4:47am @Bonj: Thanks. After seeing it enlarged during processing I'm thinking I need to go back and get some close-up shots of the neon tubing. @Klaus: Thank you. Thanks for stopping by. @Vink: Thank you. |
