I don't know what this plant is. There is some feeling about plants, submerged in my ignorance, that wants to refer to it as some kind of milk weed. No doubt someone here at Animus will know.

@Mortola: The D40 18-55 mm kit lens. Though like I said to Melissa, I've seen where both Nikon and Canon zooms test pretty well for bokeh.
Good DOF ,great colours.

@Margie: Thank you.
Terrific shot 12bit. The detail is amazing, I bet Earnest or Ron will know name of the plant.

@Observing: Thanks. I thought I might miss the longer zoom I have on my D80 but I'm quite pleased with the D40 and the 18-55 mm kit lens.
First off, LOVE the bokeh...gorgeous color. I've never seen anything like that, so I'm of no help. I agree, Ron /Earnest might know.

@Melissa W.: You and Mortola have remarked on the bokeh --just the kit lens though, it's not like I was using a Leica or something --though I have seen tests where both Nikon and Canon zoom lens test favorably with far more expensive lenses.
Beautiful!

@Evi: Thanks. Your blog images are beautiful as usual.
Maybe some kind of thistle. Awesome shot!

@MadScientist: Thanks.
You rarely take flower shot, but then again we can debate this being a flower. Very well done focus and frame

@Amir: Thanks. I'm not immune to taking the occasional flower shot, but I try not to let it get out of hand. But honestly, the wind usually wrecks havoc with my intentions and I have a hard time managing the trade-offs between ISO, aperture, and shutter speed to get a shot I like.
this 'spike weed' looks a lot prettier in this shot than the next one. i guess i can see how the unsuspecting insect might be so captivated by the pretty colors as to not notice the evil looking spikes ;)

@danthro: Graceful curves and spikes --like Angelina Jolie on speed.
