@MadScientist: I thought the entire display was enjoyably weird, but especially [what I think is] the bird that is [doing what I take to be] laying an egg. But it was the orange man on a stick that first drew my attention. Haven't played any of those games since I had kids at home. The only video game I've played recently is Grand Theft Auto IV.

I must also compliment you on your taste in music: Tom Lehrer, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon (Kodachrome is still my favorite "photography" song), Leon Redbone, Emmy Lou Harris, Townes Van Zandt, and The Stones --all good.

@danthro: I think there are more things than one here, but I assume the one you mean is the one in the foreground. I think it is supposed to be a bird of some kind laying an egg of some kind. However, that wasn't my first interpretation. I might even hazard the guess that this is supposed to be sort of a modern semi-abstract interpretation of a Phoenix. However, that's not the way I see it, and in fact, I prefer a somewhat more vulgar interpretation.

@Ronnie 2¢: Perhaps, but if, for instance, the bird is intended to represent a Phoenix, and the background figure is supposed to represent Buddha and the Bodhi tree, then maybe there are some self-imposed boundaries after all?

@Melissa W.: If I had to guess that he is intended to "be" something, I'd guess he's supposed to be Buddha, and the pole is supposed to symbolize the Bodhi tree. Or maybe he's a sumo wrestler.

@JoeB: Like I suggested to danthro, this is perhaps some modernistic interpretation of The Phoenix, but I'm only guessing. I'm guessing the guy on the pole is either a Sumo wrestler or a Buddha. If he's supposed to be Buddha, perhaps the pole is intended to symbolize the Bodhi tree. I don't know which idea a like better: that these objects are representations of mythological symbols; or that they're they own original objects of art.

@Anthony Lambert: You've taken a line from one of my favorite songs: Kodachrome, by Paul Simon. The relevant passage goes like this:
