On the Wing

These wacky shutter speeds on my exif data puzzle me. Why 2/1000 instead of 1/500? Sometimes it reads 6/3000 instead of 1/500. In any case, I'm learning that with me and this lens, 1/500 usually isn't fast enough, unless I'm braced or the camera is on a tripod --then I might even get away with 1/250. It's not too bad here, except that there is still some blur due either to motion at the wing tips or the relatively shallow DOF with this lens at f10. Not much I can do about it though. Smaller aperture = slower shutter speed and 1/500 seems to be the absolute lower limit with this lens at 300mm. Higher shutter speed = less DOF. And while a higher ISO will let me increase shutter speed or use a smaller aperture it also = more noise and less detail. Still, I do intend to experiment with the trade off in DOF at a higher shutter speed --like 1/1000.
