Sad Puppy

This will be the last image in the Seadrift series. Tomorrow I will start a new series of photos taken in San Antonio.

Unfortunately, I was unable to synchronize my comments with the appearance of today's image. Posting the image was initially all I had time for. So, as I write this, the image has been viewed 11 times, and 3 people have left comments.

This is the second of two dogs we encountered that left us facing a dilemma. This little girl was by herself next to this trash can in what amounts to a very small state park. The trash can was at the parking lot of a boat ramp and we weren't sure if this puppy was awaiting the return of her owner or had wandered there from one of the nearby houses -or worse, had possibly been abandoned.

She had on a collar that was too tight but no tags. The collar had been tied in a knot to make it fit because it was too big to be adjusted any tighter. I loosened the collar while we pondered what to do. We were inclined to take her home but my dog doesn't get along with some other dogs so we couldn't be certain we'd be able to keep her.

Eventually we left, but the though of her having possibly been abandoned was just too much for us to contemplate so we returned planning to take her home --but she was gone. Back, we hope, to a nice home.

@MadScientist: Well, I didn't have a story posted when you commented, but perhaps "timid" or "lonely" or "scared" would be more accurate than "sad."

@Observing: It's a 50 gallon drum hanging from a stand not visible to the left of the frame --a trash can. And yes, I'm sure she was viewing me with great skepticism at the point this photo was taken.

@Daroru: Me too; and beyond that, children. I can't remember his name but I remember a judge being quoted years ago as saying something like 90% of our problems are the result of a child who was not loved.

These images just break my heart. I've rescued so many dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens in my life that the last time I rescued one; a kitten, I had to have the rabies vaccine. Now, I'm one of the few people who can truly say my bark is worse than my bite. Poor little puppy with a collar too tight. Not a good sign at all. I'm hoping some other caring person took it home and it's living the good life. Allow me the dream:-) Wonderful capture.

@sherri: Me too. Dogs are naturally friendly and when they're timid or mean it usually means some person has abused or neglected them (which I guess is just a passive word for abused).

Lump in my throat time again !! I hope this puppy dog did return to a loving home.This sort of human behavior realy makes my blood boil,cruelty to animals is disgusting..

@Anthony Lambert: I agree, but I watched Nanking over the weekend, and it seems there are few bounds to human cruelty, even to other humans.

there seems be a 'relationship' going on between the red trashcan and the dog's ear. very interesting. love the color contrast of red and green.

Oh dear. Only yesterday my stepdaughter's family found a lost great dane puppy in their street. Despite persistent, all day door knocking no-one claimed him. The colour in this photo is beautiful.

@lisa v: Oh no. I have a Great Dane. He's a wonderful dog. We got him from the Pound. People dump them because they get too big. If I found an unclaimed Great Dane puppy I'd be unable to give him up.

@Persian King: Well, you've got some pretty good dog shots yourself. Maybe it's because we love dogs and it comes out our photos.
