San Antonio at Night

San Antonio Image 1

Well, looks like I'm going to be doing some traveling this week so I'm going to get behind again on blog browsing and responding to comments. Thanks to those of you who are looking and commenting in the meantime.

This image begins a series of images shot in San Antonio on Mother's Day weekend. At the bottom center of this image is a tree that is rising from the Riverwalk, but you can't see the river in this one. This shot was taken through the window of our hotel room.

There are some things I can't help thinking about when I think about San Antonio. For one thing, I don't think any other city in the state brings our cultural heritage to life as vividly as San Antonio does. And then there is the Alamo; and when I think of the Alamo, I often think of Jerry Jeff Walker. If you haven't heard of him before, you should check out his music. You may have heard his "Trashy Women" song covered by the Black Crowes or the Confederate Railroad.

What I Like About Texas, by Jerry Jeff Walker

You ask me what I like about Texas
I tell you it's the wide open spaces!
It's everything between the Sabine and the Rio Grande.
It's the Llano Estacado,
It's the Brazos and the Colorado;
Spirit of the people down here who share this land!

It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand
It's a quarter for the jukebox boys
Play the Sons of the Mother Lovin' Bunkhouse Band

You ask me what I like about Texas
It's the big timber round Nacadoches
It's driving El Camino Real into San Antone
It's the Riverwalk in Mi Tierra

Dancing to the Cotton-eyed Joe
It's stories of the Menger Hotel and the Alamo!
