This one is hot off the Nikon. I don't normally attempt to be topical but tonight I decided to be different. I was even thinking about taking some shots of fireworks tomorrow, but that, on top of this, might just be too much conventionality.

@MadScientist: It's kind of funny, because it doesn't even look right, and the job of people broadcasting a television "news" show is essentially the manipulation of symbols. I always wonder if incidents like this are simple incompetence, or if someone one on a lower rung of the ladder has managed to slip something past the station. I know if I was working in a job like that I'd be trying to slip all kinds of shit past the powers that be.

'Tis nice to brush up against convention, at times . . and now seems as good a time as any. I like the strong sense of divide between the inside and the outside in this one.

I wouldn't worry about that. We've had severe storms and rain so it might be nice to view them here:-)

this is marvelous -- like a john hopper painting... i was thinking to try and capture this phenomenon myself... but never found the right moment -- you did! superb!

i like it. it's a cool street shot, and i like the light. i think you did a good job of being topical but interesting here and the next shot. i'm not usually very topical either (not on purpose, guess i just don't think far enough ahead most of the time), tried to take some fireworks shots, just 'cause i heard it was difficult and i wanted to find out whether i could do it, still not sure how it turned out.

@danthro: Well, you can't really be topical for something like the 4th of July unless you take a shot a year in advance. I'm not so patient. Plus, I'm usually not in the mood for what's topical when it's topical.

He's been in about 100 movies, but some of his better known roles are: the psycho in Blue Velvet; the hippie prophet Billy the Kid in Easy Rider; the trippy photographer in Apocalypse Now; the psycho bomber in Speed; and more recently, the corrupt corporate emperor in Land of the Dead.

When I was in California, there were so many of these around the 4th, but since I moved to Texas I have not seen a single one. Maybe I have not been around that much

@Persian King: They're all over the place in this part of the state. But I think they're illegal inside the city limits of just about any city in the state; you probably don't see them because you're in a huge urban area where you have to drive a long distance before you exit all city limits. In my case, this stand was probably less than a mile from where I live --just outside the city limits.

yikes! :P here we go again -- ok -- dennis hopper, yep plays the intellectual bad guy, got it... aahh so dennis leary is the anxious comedian from MTV... that's right, right? marvelous volley this was! :)

@dj.tigersprout: Yeah, actually, I couldn't remember the MTV Dennis so I ignored that part, but I think Dennis Leary is right. But for those kinds of TV's hosts, I'm sort of partial to Ali G.
