Update

Came across an image of a Scarlet Tanager and the body and legs looked just like they do here. A Cardinal has a tuft of feathers at the top of his head, and while it doesn't look like this bird does, they may be pulled back --you can see some head feathers sort of puffed out just behind the branch. After further consideration, noting that he does have the black on his chest and around his beak that a Cardinal does, I'm back to my original identification.
