View From Hotel Room, St. Moritz, Switzerland

I'm going through another scanning phase this week. All of the images this week are scans of film images taken years ago, long before digital photography was considered to be a possibility.

@gbe: Well, it suddenly occurred to me I might be able to google the motel in the photo, and indeed I could. It's in St Moritz.

love these tones -- very antiquated... reminds me of childhood!

@dj.tigersprout: The tones are probably due to: 1) if I remember correctly, the negative was a dupe of a transparency; 2) color fading in the negative.

It's 10 past 6, can you remember that precies moment from back then..? That's the amazing thing about photography, you freeze the moment (and the clock) forever, but can recall it many years later.

@Observing: Thanks. I probably should have made more effort on the color correction though. I did find out this was taken in St. Moritz.

Great vantage point...looking down upon the street it seems to me that it would be quite quiet, at least from where I am sitting. The colours are great with a vintage feel. Bravo!

@MadScientist: Funny dialect --they speak German, French, and Italian don't they? Funny you ask though because I have actually been accused of being a spy --though fortunately it was by a foreign government.

Great look at a whole different place to the place I live. It's so neat and tidy and new looking but old at the same time. It's so flat around here compared to there, I love the hills and the houses on them.

I love the angle of this shot..the focus goes to the sign in the middle of the street...really brings out the tallness of the building...great job!

It's the way how they speak German. Look and listen here. I don't understand a single word either! :-D

@MadScientist: To my ears, there is sort of a Swedish or Norwegian sing-song to it. Frankly, part of the pleasure of German is the hard sounds that yield a sort of command style that makes someone speaking German sound authoritative to a foreign ear. I've even wondered how much language has been a factor in producing certain European cultures? Is part of the difference between Germans and Italians explained by the different qualities of their languages?
