Pink Flamingoes

Another film scan of an image take circa 1984. I got an award for this one in a local photo contest. These days I would never have even entered it, because, for one thing, I don't enter photo contests anymore. Well, I guess that's not strictly true. I might enter a photo contest if the bottom prize money is $500 or more, with top prizes coming in at above $1500 --but I don't come across too many of those.

Instantly recogniseble as film, and I think it would have been better without the top framing. I am the same with my older archives, what I thought was good then looks poor by comparison now.

It's good to see these old scans.... good series.

i agree that it's instantly recognizable as film, and i'm glad you left the colors alone (instead of presenting us with impossibly flaming pinks). i like this shot, but it's obvious that you're in a different groove now.

@gbe: I didn't occur to me to amp up the color but thinking about it I'm inclined to believe that the film grain here would be an impediment to that anyway.

Grain and delicate colours make this look like a precious memory, a nice effect beyond the beauty of your photo's subject.

Don't give up and keep trying, the better the photographer, the higher the prizes! This is one is very worth of a prize! I like the grain and colors of scanned pictures, they give the picture a special accent.

That's right...the old John Waters movie with Divine...I knew I knew that from somewhere. Never seen it, but I know it's a cult classic.

@Melissa W.: Yes, I have it because I'm a film buff and it is a cult classic, but I wouldn't recommend it. It is famous for a scene of Devine eating an actual dog turd. All in all, while I like John Waters, and especially films like Serial Mom and Hairspray, I don't care much for Pink Flamingos.

I forgot about Serial Mom...Kathleen Turner was great in that. Loved Hairspray when I was a teenager...still haven't seen the remake (and don't really care to see it either).

@Melissa W.: Why is that? I'm not much for remakes, but I liked the new Hairspray quite a bit. Actually, it's not a remake of the original film, but a film version of the stage musical. I really liked the music --especially the subversive lyrics. My kids even liked it; and John Travolta in drag and married to Christopher Walken is a hoot.

Yeah, I don't know...I know it's technically not a remake, and it's not like I have anything against musicals...I guess I thought it was fine the way it was. I didn't realize Christopher Walken was in it. That might be enough reason to get me to watch it after all. ;)
