Chairs and Empty Fountain

Another film scan. Shot on Tri-X, which used to be one of my favorite films. I was looking at contact sheets for something to scan. Wasn't particularly impressed with this on the the contact sheet, but thought I'd give it a try. After I scanned it I decided I liked it. This is one of those images that would have been a bitch to duplicate as it is here in print form, but it was a curve adjustment in Photoshop. So, while I love the film look, I've never regretted ditching the dark room for Photoshop.

Has the look of being taken a 100 years ago. I also don't miss the darkroom with photoshop I can achieve effects that I would have had a lab to do.

very surreal. I really love what can be done in Photoshop. I still have a lot to learn there, but it seems to me the possiblities are endless. And it lets us become more artistic and creative with our images. Thanks for sharing.

@Sandy: And a hell of a lot easier, and cheaper, than dodging, burning, masking, and using different papers, developing solutions, etc.

You don't think it's a little bright at 12 o'oclock? (being picky) you have good eye , that curve and the line of chairs, very nice image

@lisa v: You're not using a Mac are you? Are you using a calibrated monitor? My monitor is calibrated with a spyder2 pro to the standard Windows gamma of 2.2. I'm not sure I see the hot spot you're referring to, and it may just be a matter of different tastes, but it's also possible that using different monitors calibrated to different standards (or uncalibrated) we're seeing different images.

No Mac, and I definitely see a hot spot. It's not the first lot of trouble I've had lately with how things look either so as soon as I get tomorrow off I'll be recalibrating this monitor.. thanks for the heads up, I've been wondering what's going on but this has put the icing on the cake so to speak, I'm sure it has to be this monitor and probably my own fault too as I did some fine tuning in another area a while back and it was after that that it started.

@lisa v: Well, it is brighter where I think you're referring to, but there should be no values above about 250 or so. I don't think I let any of the highlights blow out. There should be detail there.
