Sailboat Race

Later 80's here. From a sailboat race off South Padre Island on the Texas coast. My crew consisted of me, my father, and my wife, and we came in dead last, finishing on a dark night, barely able to make our way through the South Padre jetties, and losing our electrical system due to a fire below deck --caused by a battery short.

Maybe I'm misreading some of the comments, but to clear up any confusion, the boat pictured is not my boat --the shot was taken from aboard my boat.

Sounds like a busy day, the boat looks imposing at sea, I was expecting a crossed bones and skull flag. I can't make out the name?

@JoeB: I think the name is "Cloud Nine," but I'm not sure either. This isn't my boat, btw, it's a shot of another boat in the race taken from aboard my boat.

@Daryl: It was a small adventure and never an unhappy memory. Still, happy memory may not be quite right --a fond memory, perhaps?

An excellent image and as usual many things went wrong. I owned a boat too and know all too well the mishaps and failures that take place. Like the engine conking out and ominously drifting into other boats.

Yachting invariably produces a trail of events far longer than the journey . . I begin to doubt some of my own sailing stories when I hear myself relating them, now. Happy days.
