Wasp Nest

@dj.tigersprout: This nest was under a garden hose rack, pretty low to the ground, so I just sat down right in front of it and started taking photos. It was in the evening when they're not supposed to be as active and they didn't seem to mind. I used a +4 macro filter and probably had my lens about 4" away from the nest. I shot some in natural light, then I went inside and got my flash and took a bunch of shots at f32.

@JoeB: Some people might find it scarier than others. There are times, when say, we're on some back road, and it's not paved, and I'm not sure if it is public or private property, and the very real possibility of being shot enters my mind.

@Daryl: They're harmless enough if you don't make them mad.

@Ronnie 2¢: Thank you. I took at least 100 shots and was going to post another one, but when I looked through them I didn't see another one that was any better than this one.

@Observing: They pretty much ignored me even though I had my camera lens a couple inches from their nest at times.

@Melissa W.: As my interest in macro photography grows, so does my interest in insects.

@dang: I thought they were supposed to be more docile in colder weather? In any case, I had my lens a couple inches away from the nest and they didn't seem to care.
