Vultures Roosting On Barbed Wire Fence

@gbe: This is sort of a "defensive" or "master" shot. These guys will stay in place if you go by in a moving car. If you stop they become wary. If you roll down a window they begin to peel off. If you get out they flee. I stopped the car well down the road and started walking in their direction. I didn't really want the sign in the frame but I shot it that way because I was afraid they'd take off if I got any closer --and they did. By the time I cleared the sign they were all gone. After the fact though, I kind of like the sign there.

@sherri: They're ugly....at least when they're not in flight. Not really birds of prey though --I don't believe they attack anything living, but just feast off the dead left by others --mostly road kill around here.

@dj.tigersprout: That's a good description. I've been trying to figure out just what it is I like about this shot, and I think it has something to do with what I feel about the grass and the lines of the background, which fit "whimsical" very well.
