Big Ball of Wire or Texas Tumbleweed

I was going to call this one "big ball of wire," more or less in honor of the reference in "Vacation" to the big ball of twine, but my wife's preferred nomenclature is "Texas Tumbleweed."

@MadScientist: Not on purpose --this thing is probably about four feet in diameter and comprised entirely of old rusty barbed wire. Apparently when they strung the fence with new wire they just rolled up the old wire into balls and left them there. There were lots of them.

@lisa v: Well, it was on the other side of a fence, so taking it would have meant trespassing and theft, but it wouldn't have been so easy to cart home anyway. This thing is probably about four feet in diameter and comprised entirely of old rusty barbed wire. Apparently when they strung the fence with new wire they just rolled up the old wire into balls and left them there. There were lots of them.

I originally envisioned this as a color image, and though the color wasn't bad --lots of rusty reds and deep blues and greens-- the b&w version just seemed to work better.

yep, i would have wanted that in my yard too. i would have faced serious resistance, but... anyway, i love this photo!

@dj.tigersprout: Yes, interesting that it is so well rounded, since it's just a ball of old barbed wire rolled up in the process of stringing the fence with new wire.
