Jet Trail at Sunset

Posted by Twelvebit (Victoria, United States) on 30 November 2008 in Landscape & Rural.

I really got lazy over the weekend and so didn't manage to get anything posted for today until well after the day had begun. Turns out it's getting posted even later because I screwed up and put it on December 1 instead of November 30.

I was out taking photos at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge on Friday, and as it started getting too dark to take photos any longer, and I was wrapping up and putting my equipment away, a plane flew overhead, and into the sunset. This image is wholly inadequate to convey the feelings of the moment --the luminosity of the jet trail, the sense of earthbound limitation, or the simple wonder that asks who is in the plane and what are they doing and where are they going? And then there are those more complex emotions that are the product of symbolism and a culture filled with imagery, which to explore, would take a lengthy essay, that I won't impose here.
