Apparently this is an Assassin Bug. I don't know the species.

Here's an interesting essay on photo-manipulation, in and out of the press. Note that our professional journalists, with all their supposed expertise, uncritically published the obviously photoshopped image discussed in the article, and it was a blogger that caught the fakery.

@Amir: Saw it while I was using my macro lens and he stayed in place long enough for me to take about five photos from about 4" away.

@grant: Not sure how well it will hold up big, but I am gearing myself up for printing images matted to about 12x18 in 18x24 frames. About the largest print I can pull off with my printer.
