Gary Hoover, Liberal Arts Graduation, 2009Posted by Twelvebit (Victoria, United States) on 25 May 2009 in Lifestyle & Culture. For awhile I'm going to be a little self-indulgent --or perhaps I should say a little more self-indulgent-- and post images from my son's recent college graduation at the University of Texas in Austin. Some Statistics These images span three ceremonies. UT Austin is one of the biggest universities in America, so each individual college holds a ceremony on the day before the main graduation, and a final ceremony is conducted for all graduates without individual presentations. There were about 8,000 graduates this Spring. My son graduated with two degrees: 1) Bachelor of Arts in Asian Cultures, with Highest Honors 2) Bachelor of Science in Radio, Television, and Film, with Highest Honors. I'm not sure where the UT cutoff is for Highest Honors, but he never got less than an A in any class during his entire four years in college. This is a photo of the Liberal Arts College graduation speaker Gary Hoover. I didn't know who he was before this, but he started "The Bookstop" book store chain that was bought out by Barnes and Noble, and the business research company Hoovers. I didn't really expect much but he was a pretty good speaker and I enjoyed his speech.
