Black Bird With Strip of Paper

Austin Image 6

I blew the exposure on this one but I like it anyway. When I first saw this bird hopping down the sidewalk I was in aperture priority mode and my first few shots were too blurry. I switched to shutter priority but I failed to adjust my ISO. As a result, this shot was woefully underexposed --almost a black frame. But thanks to the magic of RAW, and what appears to be a superior NR algorithm in the Photoshop RAW importer, I was able to salvage something. I applied a tremendous amount of NR without anywhere near the kind of loss in detail and sharpness I'd become accustomed to. Of course, the never recorded detail in the shadow areas can't be recovered, but this image looked hopeless on the camera's LCD.
